Its founder Jean Daum , after the Franco-Prussian War, took over In 1878, he opened a glassworks in Nancy and began producing window panes and watch glass, effectively giving rise to the legendary art of glassmaking that has remained intact to this day. Daum has prided itself on collaborating with the greatest artists, creating true works of art made of crystal and color. Artists such as Dalí, Arman, and Hilton McConnico have created for Daum , renewing the union between art, design, and artistic craftsmanship.
Vases , sculptures and centerpieces They are the result of Daum's art of crystal craftsmanship. Many objects are produced in limited and numbered editions, precisely to highlight their artistic uniqueness, enhancing the spaces in which they are placed, increasing their value and prestige.
The crystal pâté technique is the true signature of Daum products. This ancient and rare technique dates back to 5000 BC and is extremely delicate and complex to master. The process involves melting crystal fragments into a mold, giving the works a texture and smoothness of contours impossible to achieve with blown glass. The "pâte de verre" used by Daum comes from specially produced crystal melted in crucibles. A unique element of Daum vases and centerpieces is their color, the result of multiple factors: the grain size of the crystal fragments, the proportions of the materials, the chemical reactions between different metals, and the speed with which the temperature in the kilns is varied.
All these elements contribute to creating unique and inimitable shades, which make Daum crystals recognized and admired worldwide.
